About Us

Walking with you through life’s thresholds

At Liminal Clinic, we create space for the in-between — those moments of transition where the past no longer fits and the future isn’t yet clear.

Our work is grounded in lived experience, evidence, and compassion, offering therapy and assessments that honour layered identities, trauma, and neurodivergence.

Whether you’re moving through uncertainty, seeking clarity, or simply needing a safe place to land, we walk alongside you with care that is affirming, inclusive, and real.

Our Story

The Liminal Clinic was founded to hold space for the in-between -  those thresholds where the past no longer fits, but the future isn’t yet formed. These moments can feel unsettling, painful, or uncertain, but they can also hold profound hope and possibility.

We are a small but growing clinic, founded by Brydan Xavier (He/Him) after years of work as both a criminologist and psychologist. His research and lived experience as a gay, neurodivergent professional revealed how harm compounds at the intersections of marginalisation — racism, homophobia, ableism, and other forms of stigma and discrimination known as minority stress. This shaped Liminal Clinic’s mission: to provide affirming, informed, and identity-aware care for people in intersecting diverse communities by creating a safe and understanding space built on lived experience, curiosity, and care.

The word liminal means threshold. In therapy, liminality shows up everywhere: the burnout that leads to discovering late-diagnosed neurodivergency, the pause before seeking support, the uncertainty of gender affirmation, or the fear of rejection when coming out. It’s also the dislocation of migration, the escape from violence, the shock of a new diagnosis, or the way trauma collapses time, pulling the past into the present.

At Liminal Clinic, we don’t rush people through these in-between places. Instead, we walk alongside you — holding space for uncertainty, recognising your resilience, and supporting your transformation at the threshold.

Our Approach

Therapy that adapts to you.

At The Liminal Clinic, we know that healing and growth are deeply personal. That’s why we work flexibly — drawing on evidence, lived experience, and the unique strengths of each person to provide care that is affirming, inclusive, and real.

Inclusive and Intersectional

At Liminal Clinic, we know that healing and growth are deeply personal. That’s why we work flexibly — drawing on evidence, lived experience, and the unique strengths of each person to provide care that is affirming, inclusive, and real.

Lived Experience

We embrace lived experience as a source of wisdom. While each person’s experience is unique, we also understand what it means to be othered, and the challenges that people with minority and marginalised identities often face. This shared understanding helps us walk alongside our clients with respect, empathy, and authenticity.

Person-Centred Care

Our work is person-centred — shaped around each client’s values, goals, and lived reality. Therapy is a collaborative process, where clients are partners in their own growth and healing.

All staff are trained in trauma-informed approaches, guided by best-practice recommendations from Phoenix Australia. We utilise therapies such as trauma-informed CBT and EMDR 2.0, ensuring care that prioritises safety, empowerment, and nervous system regulation.

Trauma-Informed Practice

Evidence-Informed and Data-Driven

We are evidence-informed and data-driven. We use validated psychological measures and screening tools to track progress, identify patterns, and inform treatment. This helps us ensure therapy is not only supportive and affirming, but also effective and responsive to change over time.

Neurodivergence Affirming

We operate from a neurodivergence-affirming approach, using identity-first language and recognising neurodivergence as a valid and meaningful part of identity. We adapt our treatments in ways that work with brains, not against them, making therapy more accessible, sustainable, and empowering.

As part of our intake process, we screen all new clients for neurodivergence. We do this to help clients identify neurodivergent traits, seek tailored treatment, and learn to safely unmask. We see this not as a diagnostic hurdle, but as a way of opening doors to understanding, self-compassion, and the right kind of support.

Harnessing Technology and AI

We embrace technology and AI to make therapy more accessible and tailored. This includes routine screening for trauma and neurodivergence, given the higher prevalence within LGBTIQAPSB+ and other marginalised communities. By combining human connection with innovative tools, we deliver care that is both deeply personal and guided by evidence.

  • We centre every facet of your identity—gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, culture and ability - modelling deep, multifaceted understanding so you feel truly seen.

We see your full identity across gender, neurotype, culture, ability - all of you.

  • We draw on both our own and our community’s journeys, using lived experience to guide how we listen, learn, and support.

With openness, curiosity, and resilience, we show up in our work in ways that are real and informed.

  • We guide you through spaces and identities that may feel uncertain or misunderstood, offering culturally and emotionally safe care with empathy, understanding, and adaptability.
